Asmussen's Top 50: No. 39 Pitt

Bob Asmussen counts down his top 50 college football teams this upcoming season.

No. 39: Pitt

Coach: Paul Chryst

2013 record: 7-6

Projected 2014 record: 8-4

Circle the date: Nov. 29 at Miami

Why No. 39: Former Wisconsin offensive coordinator Chryst has to find himself a quarterback capable of moving the chains better than last year. The Panthers didn’t score enough points and didn’t practice well enough. But the offense has a budding star in sophomore receiver Tyler Boyd, who caught a gob of passes last season and is looking for more. James Conner is a talent at running back and defense should be solid. The schedule isn’t overwhelming, with Iowa providing the lone nonconference challenge. And no Florida State, always a good thing.
