Asmussen's Top 50: No. 38 Cincinnati

Asmussen's Top 50: No. 38 Cincinnati

Bob Asmussen counts down his top 50 college football teams this upcoming season.

No. 38: Cincinnati

Coach: Tommy Tuberville

2013 record: 9-4

Projected 2014 record: 9-3

Circle the date: Sept. 27 at Ohio State

Why No. 38: Gunner Kiel is eligible and that’s a good thing. The one-time Notre Dame quarterback transferred and sat out last season with the Bearcats. He went nutso in the spring game, throwing for 300 yards in a half. With three years left in Cincinnati, Tuberville is counting on Kiel to lead the program to greatness. Of course, with the team in the American, nobdy will ever know it. Too bad Cincy wasn’t welcomed in the ACC. The program deserves better exposure than this. If Kiel plays well and the rest of the skill guys come through, Cincinnati might win double-digit games. The defense was among the best in the country last season and there has been some changes on the staff. Hopefully, good ones. The schedule, other than the Buckeyes, isn’t challenging.
