Asmussen's Top 50: No. 37 Miami

Asmussen's Top 50: No. 37 Miami

Bob Asmussen counts down his top 50 college football teams this upcoming season.

No. 37: Miami

Coach: Al Golden

2013 record: 9-4

Projected 2014 record: 8-4

Circle the date: Nov. 15 vs. Florida State

Why No. 37: The mess that is the Hurricanes’ quarterback situation got a whole lot better when Jake Heaps transferred in from Kansas. That gives Golden a potential talent to go along with star running back Duke Johnson, who is returning from a broken leg. Johnson needs to be part of a ball-control offense to keep the Miami defense off the field. Somewhere, Warren Sapp is shaking his head. The schedule is not Cane-friendly with Miami opening against Louisville and traveling in late September to Nebraska. Golden didn’t have those kinds of games when he worked at Temple.
