Asmussen's Top 50: No. 36 Oregon State

Bob Asmussen counts down his top 50 college football teams this upcoming season.

No. 36: Oregon State

Coach: Mike Riley

2013 record: 7-6

Projected 2014 record: 8-4

Circle the date: Nov. 29 vs. Oregon

Why No. 36: Riley has done a fine job in Corvallis. Not you would ever know it because of the giant shadow cast by bitter rival Oregon. They don’t call it the Civil War for nothing. Oregon will again be its dominant self, but the Beavers have a chance for an Oregon-like season. Get past Southern Cal in late September and the Beavers will be looking at a 6-0 start going into a critical game at Stanford. Oregon State will miss receiver Brandin Cooks, but quarterback Sean Mannion returns for his final season. The defense welcomes back seven starters and will be especially strong at linebacker.
