Illini add another Texas wideout

Sam Mays became the 12th Class of 2015 recruit to pledge to Illinois and second wide receiver to do so this weekend.

Mays, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound three-star prospect from Houston, orally committed to the Illini on Sunday afternoon.

The commitment came after highly-coveted wideout A.D. Miller from Dallas Bishop Dunne High School chose the Illini on Saturday night.

Mays, who plays at The Kinkaid School in Houston, picked Illinois ahead of offers from BYU, Fresno State, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, North Texas and Southern Miss.

Illinois wide receivers coach Mike Bellamy and offensive line coach A.J. Ricker were the primary recruiters on Mays.

Mays joins Centennial quarterback Jimmy Fitzgerald, DeKalb running back Dre Brown, Jacksonville offensive lineman Gabe Megginson, Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College High running back Reggie Corbin, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard offensive lineman Adam Solomon, Iowa Western Community College tight end Andrew Davis, Medina (Ohio) offensive lineman Zeke Martin, Chicago Hales Franciscan defensive back Pat Nelson, American River (Calif.) College offensive lineman, Sacramento City College running back Henry Enyenihi and Miller.
