Asmussen's Top 50: No. 32 Mississippi State

Asmussen's Top 50: No. 32 Mississippi State

Bob Asmussen counts down his Top 50 college football teams for the upcoming season.

No. 32: Mississippi State

Coach: Dan Mullen

2013 record: 7-6

Projected 2014 record: 9-3

Circle the date: Nov. 15 at Alabama

Why No. 32: Start with quarterback Dak Prescott, one of the best running quarterbacks in the country. Of course, part of the quarterback’s job is to throw the ball and that’s where the Bulldogs need to get better. Josh Robinson is a talented runner, who will take some of the pressure off of Prescott. Defensively, the Bulldogs are at their best up front, with a pack of experienced players returning. The early SEC schedule is brutal with games against LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn. And the game against the Crimson Tide won’t be much fun. To get to nine wins, Mississippi State is going to need to pull an upset during conference play. Winning the division title is much more complicated.
