Asmussen's Top 50: No. 28 Missouri

Asmussen's Top 50: No. 28 Missouri

Bob Asmussen continues his countdown of his picks for the Top 50 college football teams this fall.

No. 28: Missouri

Coach: Gary Pinkel

2013 Record: 12-2

Projected 2014 Record: 9-3

Circle the date: Sept. 27 at South Carolina

Why No. 28: Normally when you lose a quarterback as good as James Franklin, there is going to be trouble the next season. But the Tigers got plenty of work for Maty Mauk, who needs to complete a higher percentage of his passes. Pinkel was smart enough to hire A.J. Ricker away from Illinois, and the former Tiger inherits a talented offensive line, with three starters back. The offense will miss receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, who was dismissed from the team in the spring. The defense got hit hard by graduation, especially star Michael Sam. But Pinkel has solid backups ready to step in. Alabama isn’t on the schedule, but the Tigers face a three-game stretch against South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
