Hood to lead State Farm Center renovation
CHAMPAIGN — Warren Hood, who headed up the Memorial Stadium renovation project from 2004-08, on Wednesday was named senior associate athletics director for capital projects and facility operations, taking over for Tom Michael who was named the athletic director at Eastern Illinois earlier this month.
Hood will assume Michael's duties as the point man for the current State Farm Center renovation project.
Hood joined the Illinois athletic department in 1990, where he spent the last 15 years overseeing the department's external relations unit.
Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas will look to fill Hood's position.
Warren will make a seamless transition to this role and will do an excellent job overseeing the State Farm Center renovations,” Thomas said in a statement. “He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in projects of this magnitude, having served as the point person on the successful Memorial Stadium Renaissance. Warren has fostered important relationships with our campus administration and he brings familiarity to the job, having previously assisted Tom Michael on the State Farm Center project to this point.
“The scope of this position goes well beyond State Farm Center renovations. We are currently involved in master planning for all of our athletics facilities and Warren will play an integral role in capital projects such as further renovations to Memorial Stadium and the creation and expansion of Olympic sports venues.”
