Why No. 20: The Mountaineers caught a break when the NCAA ruled starting quarterback Will Grier is eligible for the season opener against Virginia Tech. Grier was suspended during the 2015 season while at Florida for using a banned substance. He sat out 2016 after his transfer. He won all five games as a starter at Florida, throwing for 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. West Virginia needs to replace starting quarterback Skyler Howard. The Mountaineers will count on tailback Justin Crawford, who ran for 1,100 yards last season. Receiver Ka'Raun White is back after grabbing 48 passes. He is the brother of former West Virginia star Kevin White. The defense needs to replace seven starters. It will need a big season from linebacker Al-Rasheed Benton. After the opener against the Hokies, West Virginia plays East Carolina and Delaware State. In the Big 12, they visit TCU, Baylor, Kansas State and Oklahoma. Oklahoma State and Texas visit Morgantown.
