Top 50 most important Illini: No. 16, Jordan Fagan, OL

Why he's important: Plenty is still to be decided about the Illinois offensive line heading into fall. Training camp could see any number of five-man combinations being the best five at the moment. With two starters to replace and few experienced linemen waiting in the wings, the fact Fagan played in seven games last season and made a start puts him toward the top of the list. His versatility won't hurt either. Fagan was recruited out of Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif., as the No. 14 junior college tackle in the country and No. 21 overall junior college player. At 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, he has the frame to play either tackle spot for the Illini. But the Chula Vista, Calif., native got most of his playing time in 2016 at guard and made his lone start there against Western Michigan after Gabe Megginson was injured in the previous game. Fagan's versatility, paired with his experience, might make him a starting lineup regular for the first time in his final season.

Fast fact: Fagan earned multiple All-Mesa League honors at Olympian High School in Chula Vista, and not just in football. Before his First Team All-Mesa selection as a senior, he claimed second team honors in basketball and earned four varsity letters on the hardwood.
