Illini Legends, Lists and Lore: Don Osborn

Happy Birthday to Don Osborn, the current assistant coach to Justin Spring for the Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team. Osborn returned to Illinois in 2015 after 20 years away from the program. He initially joined Yoshi Hayasaka's staff as an assistant in 1985 and continued in that role until 1994 when he succeeded his boss as Illinois' head coach. Osborn attended Indiana State University as an undergraduate and was a member of the Sycamores' 1977 gymnastics team, a squad that included Olympian Kurt Thomas and won the NCAA Championship.

Osborn was a three-time United States Gymnastics Federation National Championship qualifier. There have been 13 first-team All-Big Ten performers during Osborn's 14 years with the Illini men's gymnastics program:
