UI roundup: Illini football adds grad transfer

CHAMPAIGN — Three days before the end of the 2017 season, Lovie Smith found some help for 2018.

On Wednesday, Appalachian State receiver Shaedon Meadors said on Twitter he will transfer to Illinois for his final season. As a graduate transfer, he will be immediately eligible.

Meadors missed the 2017 season with an injury and had been looking for a new school. He visited Illinois earlier in the season.

As a junior in 2016, Meadors caught 45 passes for 716 yards and two touchdowns. He earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors last year. He had 15 catches as a freshman and 21 as a sophomore. He missed time his freshman year because of illness.

Originally from Duncan, S.C., he was a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com. He had 1,864 yards and 33 touchdowns as a high school senior.

Illini sweep Hawkeyes. The Illinois volleyball team easily defeated Iowa on Wednesday night at Huff Hall, winning 25-19, 25-13, 25-12 as the Illini reached the 20-win plateau in the process.Ali Bastianelli paced Illinois (20-10, 11-8) with 13 kills and Jacqueline Quade chipped in 10 kills as the Illini won on senior night. After the win, the Illini honored their lone senior, Brandi Donnelly.

Donnelly led Illinois with 17 digs, while Jordyn Poulter nearly finished with a double-double after supplying 37 assists and nine digs.
