Top 50 most important Illini: No. 26, Carmoni Green

Vitals: 6-1, 190, WR

Hometown: Miami

High School: Miami Central

Looking back at 2017: Green played in six games as a true freshman last season after enrolling early to get a head start on his Illini career. He led the team with four receptions against Iowa — half of his season total — and finished his first year with eight receptions for 75 yards while also playing on special teams as a part-time punt returner.

Looking ahead to 2018: Green's first season wasn't without its struggles. His part-time punt returner status was brief because of ball security issues, and he bounced in and out of the rotation at wide receiver after making his debut against Nebraska in the fourth game of the season. But the Miami native has the type of speed Illini coach Lovie Smith wants in his wide receivers, and Illinois can use all the depth it can get at that position.

Last year's ranking: No. 39
