Top 50 teams in 2018: No. 26, Texas A&M

Coach: Jimbo Fisher

2017 record: 7-6

Projected 2018 record: 8-4

Circle the date: Sept 22 at Alabama

Bowl trip: Music City

Why No. 26: Pretty gutsy of Fisher to leave the comfort and security of Florida State to try to push the Aggies toward the top of the SEC. It is not an easy job, mostly because of the talent level in the conference, both on the field and in the coaching box. Fisher raises it another notch. ... Quarterback Nick Starkel finished the season with a 499-yard effort in the Belk Bowl and should be the starter. Kellen Mond remains a solid option. ... Tailback Trayveon Williams has a good chance to go over 1,000 yards after running for 798 and eight touchdowns in 2017. ... Receiver Jhamon Ausbon is looking to top his 50-catch rookie season. ... The best player on defense is end Landis Durham, who had 10 1/2 sacks last season. ... Linebacker Tyrel Dodson is the leading returning tackler. ... The nonconference schedule is soft, except for a home game against Clemson. ... In the SEC, the Aggies play at Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina and Mississippi State. Double yikes.
