Golfer of the Week? Duh, it's Scott Langley
Listen to Steve Kelly talk golf here
Each week, we tip our hat to a local golfer. This week is a no-brainer: Illini Scott Langley.
Recently: Last Wednesday, the 21-year-old Illinois junior won the NCAA individual championship. On Monday, he qualified for the U.S. Open.
Rate your week: Individually, it's been a 10 out of 10. To come away with a national championship, that meant a lot to me. To continue to play well (at the U.S. Open qualifier) was a great accomplishment and something I'm happy with.
Who's the better Lefty, you or Mickelson? I would have to go with the world rankings on that one. Hopefully one day I can be that good.
Who do you want in your U.S. Open pairing? If I could pick, it would be really, really cool to golf with Steve Stricker. Maybe I can at least get a practice round with him.
I say Pebble Beach, you say ... amazing.
Favorite area course: Champaign Country Club. I had a really good round there my freshman year.
Lowest round? That was at Champaign Country Club. I had a 61.
Longest drive? My teammates will laugh when they see this, but I hit one in St. Louis that went 350 or 360 yards. They won't believe it.
Last hole-in-one? From the red tees at Stone Creek. No. 3. That's my only one.
Best food on campus? It's a tossup between Papa Del's and Za's. I'll go with Za's.
Who does better with the ladies, golfers or football players? Golfers, for sure.
Can you take your coach, Mike Small? Sometimes. It's a close match, neck and neck.
Tiger Woods is ... the greatest player of all time.
Order on the 19th hole: An Arnold Palmer
