Pawloski fuels soccer rout
BATON ROUGE, La. — Megan Pawloski scored a pair of goals to lead the Illinois soccer team in a 5-0 rout of Oregon on Sunday, ending the LSU tournament on a positive note heading into Big Ten play next weekend.
Senior Jackie Guerra scored her first career goal, and Julie Ewing and Vanessa DiBernardo also connected for the 20th-ranked Illini.
"It was a well-rounded effort offensively and defensively today, and we had the commitment to put numbers in the box," Illinois coach Janet Rayfield said.
The Illinois defense held the Ducks to seven shots as keeper Steph Panozzo recorded her second shutout of the season.
In men's golf:
Pieters leads Illini. Thomas Pieters finished eighth at 4 over, and Luke Guthrie (6 over) was 11th as the Illini finished sixth at the Northern Intercollegiate in Sugar Grove.
"I will wait to make more of an assessment after next week and not judge too much after just one tournament," coach Mike Small said. "But we got kicked in the teeth pretty good today and got beat up by the course."
Illini cruise. Jenna Mychko slugged a three-run homer and three Illinois pitchers combined for a three-hitter in a 10-0 victory against Kankakee Community College to open the fall season.
Jackie Guy (two innings), Shelese Arnold (two innings) and Pepper Gay (three innings) each allowed a hit for the Illini.
