Golfweek honors Pieters

ORLANDO, Fla. — Illinois junior Thomas Pieters was named an honorable mention All-American by Golfweek on Thursday.

Pieters, who previously announced he was turning pro at the conclusion of this season, helped the Illini to a program-best second-place finish in the NCAA Championships on Sunday.

The All-America honor is the second of Pieters’ career. The 2012 NCAA individual champion was named a PING first-team All-American last year.

Golfweek’s All-America teams are determined by players’ order in the Golfweek/Sagarin college rankings. Pieters is No. 38 on that list.
