Scott Langley

Class of 2011

Status report: The 2010 NCAA individual champ earned his PGA Tour card prior to the 2013 season. After competing in six events the previous three seasons, Langley has more than tripled that number in 2013 alone, teeing off at 21 tournaments entering the John Deere. That said, it hasn’t turned into an exactly smooth rookie year for the 24-year-old. The lefty has missed the cut in 14 events, including five of the last six. He did play through the weekend at the U.S. Open and tied for 41st at Merion Golf Club in his third appearance at the major. Langley’s best performance on the tour came in his first of 2013. He tied for third at the Sony Open in Hawaii on Jan. 13, bringing home $324,800 and opened the tournament with his best round (62) as a professional.

Deere tracking: This is Langley’s second outing at TPC Deere Run, and he’s hoping for a better experience than in 2011. The Classic was his only PGA Tour event of 2011, and it was not pleasant. Langley shot a 17-over par in his opening two rounds to miss the cut by a wide margin.

Outlook: Langley stands 130th on the tour’s money list ($481,267), and if he plays until Sunday, the St. Louis native should crack the half-million-dollar mark in earnings this weekend. Langley needs to get back to playing the solid golf he showcased earlier this year in Hawaii and at Illinois. What better time to start than this weekend?
