Davan second; Small, others give chase

GLENVIEW — Hoopeston’s Michael Davan was tied for second place after the second round of the Illinois Open Championship on Tuesday.

Davan shot a 4-under-par 68 Tuesday and was at 139, trailing leader Vince India of Deerfield by 2 strokes at The Glen Club.

Ex-Illini Garrett Chaussard was tied for 14th at 143. Former Illini Zach Barlow was tied for 19th at 144, and UI men’s golf coach Mike Small, ex-Illini Jonathon Krick and former Illini Geoff Lound were tied for 23rd at 145.

Current Illini Nick Robles (150), UI senior-to-be Jonathan Hauter (151) and Mahomet’s Seth Trolia (151) did not make the cut.

Danielson in ninth. UI sophomore-to-be Charlie Danielson carded a second-round 74 and was tied for ninth at 2-over 146 at the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship in Saukville, Wis.

Danielson trailed leader Jordan Niebrugge by 11 strokes.
