A look at how the four former Illini fared in the opening round of the PGA Championshp on Thursday:

— Seeking his first win at a major, Steve Stricker was his usual steady self during a round of 68 that included four birdies.

— PGA rookie Luke Guthrie also fared well at Oak Hill, carding a 1-over 71 to inch closer to making the cut.

— D.A. Points’ first nine holes were an adventure — four bogeys, one double bogey, three birdies and one par — but he settled down to finish with a 3-over 73.

— UI golf coach Mike Small bogeyed his first three holes en route to a 6-over 76. He had two birdies on the back nine.
