Steady Stricker near top at PGA Championship

Three former Illini will be playing this weekend at the PGA Championshp.

— Steve Stricker remains in contention for his first major. A second-round 67 left Mr. Reliable only 4 strokes off the pace.

— PGA Tour rookie Luke Guthrie will be playing on a Saturday in a major for the first time after a second consecutive 71.

— D.A. Points rallied with an even-par 70 to make the cut. But he’s 12 strokes behind leader Jason Dufner.

— UI golf coach Mike Small shot a second consecutive 76 to finish well off the pace. “It’s a hard golf course, but it’s fair,” he said. “I struggled all week in the practice rounds. It’s fun to be here and learn and to watch, which has been important for us. But yeah, I wish I had brought a little more ammunition with me.”
