Danielson reaches Sweet 16 at U.S. Amateur

BROOKLINE, Mass. — Illinois men's golfer Charlie Danielson advanced to the Round of 16 at the United States Amateur on Thursday morning after a 3-and-1 win against Chase Koepka at the Brookline Country Club.

Danielson birdied two of the last three holes to close out the match.

Danielson, who helped lead the Illini to a national runner-up finish this spring as a sophomore, will play again this afternoon against Brandon Matthews with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals.

Danielson, a native of Osceola, Wis., never trailed in his match against Koepka, a sophomore-to-be at South Florida.

Matthews, this afternoon's opponent, plays collegiately at Temple.
