Steve Stricker

Happy 47th birthday to former Illini golf star Steve Stricker. He was the individual medalist at the Big Ten Championship meets in 1986, ’88 and ’89 and earned All-America honors as a junior and senior. Stricker began playing on the PGA Tour in 1994 and has 21 professional victories. His best efforts in major championships include a runner-up placing at the 1998 PGA Championship, fifth-place finishes in ’98 and ’99 at the U.S. Open, a sixth-place result at the 2009 Masters and a seventh-place finish at the British Open. Moneywise, his biggest individual prize was $1 million at the 2001 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Stricker’s best single round came at the John Deere Classic in 2010, when he shot an 11-under-par 60. Amazingly, he followed with rounds of 66 and 62, for a total of 188, to set the PGA Tour’s 54-hole scoring record. The PGA’s career money leaders (through Feb. 16) shows Stricker in eighth place all time:
