UI's Oka misses All-America cut

LINCOLN, Neb. – Illinois sophomore Leo Oka finished in seventh place on still rings Saturday at the NCAA men's gymnastics championships at Nebraska.

The top six finishers in each event earned All-America status.

Oka, the lone Illini competing, scored a 9.5875 in the finals. He qualified Thursday with a career-high 9.750.

Brigham Young's Guard Young won the vault and Cortney Bramwell won the rings. Young and Bramwell were BYU's first individual champions since 1975, and their titles came three weeks after they learned the school will discontinue its program after next season. Both will be seniors next year.
