Illini remain No. 1

The Illinois men''s gymnastics team retained its No. 1 ranking in this week''s GymInfo poll despite a loss Saturday to No. 2 Oklahoma.

Based on a formula involving a three-score average, Yoshi Hayasaki''s Illini lead the nation at 220.708. The Sooners have a 220.342 average.

Illinois also ranks first in floor exercise (36.842) and pommel horse (37.225), and is among the top three teams in the other four events.

Individually, Illini sophomore Justin Spring leads the nation in floor exercise (9.700) and parallel bars (9.483). Spring also was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the fifth in the last seven weeks. Junior Ben Newman is No. 1 in pommel horse (9.750).
