CHAMPAIGN – Davis Fraker continued his assault on the school record books.

The freshman broke his own record in the weight throw and improved to 6-0 in three meets this season as Illinois won nine event titles en route to a dominating victory Saturday at the Illini Classic.

Fraker launched a weight throw of 68 feet, 2 1/4 inches, breaking his own record by nearly 15 inches. He also won the shot put.

"Davis had a tremendous weight throw series today," UI coach Mike Turk said. "He and all of our guys responded really well with some terrific performances, which were even better than I had hoped for. The entire freshman class will really make their mark on Illinois, and their careers here have really started out strong."

Andrew Riley won the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. Also earning crowns were Stanley Azie (200), Ryan Lynn (800), Jim Riddle (3,000), Matthew Bane (pole vault) and Steve Monte (heptathlon).

In women's tennis:

No. 4 Irish too tough. Marisa Lambropoulos and Amy Allin won singles matches, but the 25th-ranked Illini women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to fourth-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday.

Allin beat No. 78 Chrissie McGaffigan 6-2, 6-2. Lambropoulos rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 win.

"Amy has had a tremendous work ethic since the day she arrived and has really carried it over from the fall," Illini coach Michelle Dasso said. "She has renewed confidence and plays with great energy."

No. 100 Rachael White lost a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 contest against No. 9 Kristy Frilling.

In women's gymnastics:

Illini earn tie. Allison Buckley won the all-around and vault titles, and Melissa Fernandez won the bars as No. 22 Illinois tied No. 16 Ohio State.

Fernandez was second in the all-around, and Kelsey Joannides was third.

"Allison had a phenomenal meet," interim coach Kim Landrus said. "She performed an updated dismount on vault and nailed it perfectly. Melissa and Kelsey also hit all four routines and were solid for us on each event."

In men’s gymnastics:
Illini cruise. Paul Ruggeri won three individual titles (floor, parallel bars, high bar) to lead the top-ranked Illini to an easy win against host No. 7 Minnesota and No. 9 Nebraska.

Tyler Mizoguchi tied for the floor title and won the all-around crown.

In women’s track and field:

Illini roll. Tamika Robinson won the 60 meters and 60 hurdles as Illinois rolled to the Illini Classic crown.

Kayla Smith (200), Ryisha Boyd (400), Jayla McArthur (600), Stephanie Morgan (800), Katie Porada (1,600), Elizabeth Boyle (3,000), Kendall McCaugherty (high jump), Stephanie Richartz (pole vault) and Kelly Washington  (pentathlon) also won events.
