The Illinois men’s gymnastics team swept the Big Ten Conference’s final weekly awards of the season, with Austin Phillips selected as Gymnast of the Week and Alex Varga as Freshman of the Week.

Phillips won the high bar and tied for first in still rings to lead No. 3 Illinois to a 354.600-339.100 victory against Illinois-Chicago on Saturday at Huff Hall. The event titles were the first of the season for the sophomore from Mahwah, N.J., who scored a career-best 15.100 in high bar. Phillips also tied a career high in parallel bars (14.700) while placing fourth in the event.

Varga won his first event title as an Illini while scoring a career-high 16.000 in vault. In addition, the Glen Ellyn native tied for second place in floor exercise at 14.800.
