Riley sets record

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois senior sprinter Andrew Rileybroke his own record in the 60 meters Saturday in the Illini Classic. His 6.71 time in the prelims edged his previous mark of 6.72. He matched the 6.72 in the finals, then later won the 60 hurdles in his first competition of the season.

Illinois took 11 events and won the team title with 255.50 points.

In women's track & field:

Illinois took 12 events in winning the Illini Classic. Missouri finished second in the team race and Northern Illinois took third.

In women's gymnastics:

No. 15 Illinois got a big effort from Kelsey Joannides in a dual tie at Iowa. Joannides took the all-around and three individual events as the teams matched scores of 195.075.

In women's tennis:

Illinois defeated Western Illinois and Illinois State both by 7-0 scores at Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2001.

Allison Falkin won her No. 1 singles matches 6-0, 6-0. Melissa Kopinski and Julia Jamieson each won two singles matches.
