UI to host '17 NCAA women's gymnastics regional

CHAMPAIGN — The University of Illinois will host the NCAA women's regional gymnastics competitions in 2017, according to an NCAA announcement today.

Women's gymnastics regionals will be at the State Farm Center in 2017, according to the NCAA.

In 2018 the university will host the Division I men's gymnastics championships at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, it was also announced.

Illinois wasn't among the four schools selected to host the men's and women's tennis championships despite getting rave reviews for how it handled the event for the first time last spring. The schools that were chosen instead: Baylor (2015), Tulsa (2016), Georgia (2017) and Wake Forest (2018).

The NCAA released plans for a slew of host sites for different championships across a four-year cycle from 2014 to 2018. In total, 1,984 bid applications were submitted and 523 total championship event sites were awarded across all three divisions, according to the NCAA.
