STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Considering the competition, Mike Poeta is impressed how his Illinois wrestling teammates fared at Saturday's Big Ten Championships.
URBANA – Freshman Ruan Roelofse scored the clinching win for the Illinois men's tennis team Friday. His 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory against Purdue's Eric Ramos gave the Illini a 4-3 dual win against the Boilermakers at Atkins Tennis Center.
HOUSTON – Ashley Wright, Taylor Call and Monica Perry combined to allow one earned run on one hit in 13 innings as Illinois won twice at Saturday's Houston Invitational.
CHAMPAIGN – Allison Buckley scored a 39.35 to take the all-around title and lead the No. 17 Illinois women's gymnastics team to a 196.700-195.695 win against No. 18 Ohio State on Sunday at Huff Hall.
The Illini total broke the previous school record of 196.300 set in 2004.
CHAMPAIGN – Daniel Ribeiro won the pommel horse and Brian Liscovitz won the horizontal bar as No. 3 Illinois beat No. 4 Penn State 345.500-339.800 in a Big Ten men's gymnastics meet Saturday at Huff Hall.
Celebrating Justin Spring Night, the Illini got second-place finishes from Tyler Mizoguchi (pommel horse), Roger Pasek (vault), Chris Lung (parallel bars) and C.J. Padera (horizontal bars). Mizoguchi also finished second in the all-around.
TAMPA, Fla. — Hope Howell drove in two runs, leading Illinois to a 6-4 softball victory against South Florida on Friday at the Wilson Tournament.
The Illini (4-2) lost 4-1 to Hofstra in their tournament opener.
