STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Illinois gymnasts Wes Haagensen, Chris Silcox, Tyler Yamauchi and Chad Wiest earned All-America honors in individual event finals during the final day of the NCAA Championships on Saturday.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Illinois men's gymnastics team thought it was due for a breakout performance.
It picked a good time to deliver.
CHAMPAIGN – Tyler Yamauchi stands with his head down and his dark eyes closed at the edge of a blue mat. He's visualizing his vault routine, but nerves already have taken over the gymnast's 5-foot-1 frame.
Flying down the runway, Yamauchi focuses on clearing the hurdle in front of him. Next, he reaches forward, propelling himself through the air to complete his vault, a handspring double front. The routine, which Yamauchi debuted for the season in January, is one of the most difficult in gymnastics.
INDIANAPOLIS – Bob Starkell's 20th-ranked women's gymnastics team earned the fourth seed in the South Central Regional, announced Monday.
It is the fourth straight invite for the Illini, who compete April 14 in Tucson, Ariz.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Senior Cara Pomeroy led the Illinois women's gymnastics team to its highest Big Ten Championships finish in 17 years Saturday by winning the uneven bars.
The No. 21 Illini placed third with 195.250 points, trailing champion Michigan and Penn State. It was Illinois' highest finish in the league meet since winning the 1990 Big Ten title.
MINNEAPOLIS – Wes Haagensen won the all-around title at the Big Ten Championships in men's gymnastics Friday, giving Illinois its second consecutive title in the event.
"It really came down to the wire," Haagensen said. "I knew that it came down to the very end, and when I saw the scores I couldn't have been happier. Other than winning the team title, this was my goal."
