Starkell, Illini put on a show

CHAMPAIGN – Bob Starkell was just as excited for his former gymnasts as he was his current Illini at Saturday's Big Ten meet at Huff Hall.

"I'm hoping all our alumni were pretty entertained," the Illinois women's coach said. "There was a lot of pressure with all of them here. But I couldn't have asked for anything more."

Illinois' Botterman rising to the challenge

CHAMPAIGN – Marijka Botterman is having a heck of a season for the Illinois gymnastics team. She broke her own school record in the individual vault at Ohio State and is ranked in the top 100 nationally in that event. In the uneven bars, too.

Botterman is having so much fun, the senior wants more time.

Hartleb wins 100th as Illinois sweeps

CHAMPAIGN – Illinois baseball coach Dan Hartleb notched his 100th win as his nationally ranked Illini swept Akron in nonconference baseball action Saturday.

Roelofse's rally keeps streak alive

URBANA – Freshman Ruan Roelofse scored the clinching win for the Illinois men's tennis team Friday. His 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory against Purdue's Eric Ramos gave the Illini a 4-3 dual win against the Boilermakers at Atkins Tennis Center.

Illini team up for no-hitter

HOUSTON – Ashley Wright, Taylor Call and Monica Perry combined to allow one earned run on one hit in 13 innings as Illinois won twice at Saturday's Houston Invitational.

Buckley leads record-setting day

CHAMPAIGN – Allison Buckley scored a 39.35 to take the all-around title and lead the No. 17 Illinois women's gymnastics team to a 196.700-195.695 win against No. 18 Ohio State on Sunday at Huff Hall.

The Illini total broke the previous school record of 196.300 set in 2004.
