Three-point project: Big Ten


Earlier this season the Hoosiers, who had led No. 1 Kentucky for most of the contest but trailed by two, ran a length-of-the-court play, set up by a pick from Cody Zeller and a feed from Verdell Jones III, that saw Christian Watford hit nothing but net as the buzzer sounded, setting off a wild celebration in a 73-72 Hoosiers win.


Kevin Gamble`s three-pointer with one second left beat Oklahoma 93-91 in overtime in the Sweet 16 of the 1987 NCAA tournament.


In February 2011, Stu Douglass knocked down a three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining at Michigan State to put the Wolverines up five at the Breslin Center, cementing a 61-57 win. After starting 1-6 in Big Ten play, the win at East Lansing helped Michigan rally for a 9-9 Big Ten record and its second NCAA tournament bid in three years.


In the second round of the 2010 NCAA tournament, Korie Lucious beat Maryland with a buzzer beater from the top of the key, sending the Spartans to the Sweet 16. They would advance to their second straight Final Four and sixth of the Tom Izzo era a weekend later.


In the final regular season game of the 1993-94 season, Voshon Lenard hit a desperation three at the end of the first overtime against Iowa. The Gophers won 107-96 in three overtimes to cement a spot in the NCAA tournament. Lenard, a future NBA three-point champ, wound up with four three-pointers and 38 points.


Beau Reid's 23-footer with two seconds left on Nov. 28, 1990, beat No. 5 Michigan State 71-69. The shot started Nebraska's school-record 14-game win streak as the Cornhuskers won a school-record 26 games that season.


Michael Jenkins' buzzer-beater in overtime beat No. 23 Iowa 75-74 on Jan. 26, 2005. Northwestern trailed by 12 points with 3:27 left, and the wild rally was capped by walk-on Jenkins' three-pointer, which bounced twice on the rim and fell through at the buzzer in overtime.


Matt Sylvester's late three-pointer ended the top-ranked Illini's bid for an undefeated season on March 6, 2005. The final from Columbus: Ohio State 65, Illinois 64.


Joe Crispin's off-balance three with seconds remaining gave Penn State a 65-63 victory against No. 2 Michigan State in the 2009 Big Ten tournament quarterfinals in Chicago. The win marked the highest-ranked team that Penn State had ever beaten and set the stage for the Nittany Lions' eventual run to the NCAA Sweet 16 that season.


Two years in a row, Chad Austin beat Indiana with last-second three-pointers. On. Feb. 25, 1996, his three gave Purdue a 74-72 win at the buzzer. On Feb. 18, 1997, Austin's shot at Indiana won it 89-87.


Former News-Gazette All-Stater Alando Tucker banked in a runner from 25 feet to beat Iowa 59-56 in the 2005 Big Ten Tournament. The buzzer-beater sent the Badgers to the title game, where they lost to top-ranked Illinois 54-43.
