Three-point project: Big West

On Jan. 21, the Mustangs tied the NCAA record by hitting their first 11 three-pointers in a 100-54 win against Cal State Northridge. Cal Poly was perfect until early in the second half, when Amaurys Fermin missed from the top of the key. The Mustangs finished the game hitting 15 of 21 threes (71 percent, a school record).

Lucious Harris hit a game-winner against Texas on Dec. 13, 1989, in an 89-87 win that showed potential of a team that would make a run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament.

Against Kentucky Wesleyan in the 1998 NCAA Division II championship, Jason Cox's transition three-pointer gave nonscholarship UC Davis the lead with 39 seconds remaining on its way to an 83-77 win. It was the program's first and only visit to the Division II Elite Eight.

On Feb. 9, 1989, in sold-out Titan Gym against UNLV, senior forward Derek Jones hit the only three-pointer of his career after chasing an offensive rebound into the corner, turning around and shooting at the buzzer to force overtime as he fell into the team bench. Then-sophomore guard Wayne Williams beat the overtime buzzer and the Rebels, 93-92, with a pull-up trey after rebounding a missed UNLV free throw at 0:04. UNLV had beaten Fullerton 20 of the previous 22 meetings.

Jerry Green hit a three from beyond the top of the key with 1.8 seconds remaining in overtime to beat Boise State 89-87 on Feb. 10, 2001. Green was a two-time Big West Conference Player of the Year (2001, 2002).

Division II at the time, Riverside made 21 of 36 three-pointers to beat No. 4 Iowa on Christmas Day in 1988 at the Chaminade Christmas Tournament in Hawaii. Riverside wasn't even supposed to play in the tournament, but New Mexico State backed out due to financial reasons. Both the makes and attempts set single-game NCAA records for any division at the time.

In the 2011 Big West tourney title game, UCSB was the No. 5 seed and had already beaten No. 4 and No. 3 to set up a game against No. 1 seed Long Beach State, which had beaten the Gauchos twice during the regular season. But Jon Pastorek, UCSB's defensive post player who rarely shot the ball, made a three-pointer to spark the 64-56 win.

Against Pacific in the Big West championship game March 14, 2009, Rodrigue Mels made a three-pointer with 1:29 remaining in overtime to seal the win, the program's second straight league title and a berth in the 2009 NCAA tournament against the Memphis Tigers.

Miah Davis hit a three with 1:30 left against Providence in the NCAA tournament on March 19, 2004. The shot made it a seven-point game, cementing the win.
