Klee: Illini's Jimmy Price accepts K-State offer

CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois basketball strength and conditioning coach will join Bruce Weber at Kansas State.

Jimmy Price, who has worked with the Illini men’s and women’s programs for the past nine years, has accepted an offer to become the strength coach for the Wildcats, he said today.

“It was a tough decision because I've loved my time at Illinois and the players I’ve been fortunate to work with,” Price said. “I’ve worked with coach Weber for nine years. He’s been a great friend and someone I trust, and I’m looking forward to continuing that at K-State.”

Price has experience working in the Big 12. Prior to arriving at Illinois, Price worked with Texas Tech men’s basketball under Bob Knight. The Texas native served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1996-2002. Weber was hired at Kansas State after being fired at Illinois.

First-year Illinois coach John Groce is in the process of completing his support staff, including a replacement for Price.

“I can tell you from the short time I’ve been around him — and seeing how he’s been with the players and his staff — Illinois basketball is in great hands with coach Groce," Price said. "I can’t say enough about how good he’s been since he got here."

Based upon the "sand-gets-kicked-in-face-of-our-players-by-Big-Ten-bullies" look we've had over the past few years, can't say this isn't anything but great news.   In fact, I am surprised to learn that we even had  a strength coach.  He certainly never met Mike Tiisdale or Mike Davis during their time here...

yeah its not like Tisdale gained any weight during his time here. Oh wait, he gained like 40 pounds. I guess that was due to magic.

What a moronic comment.  Apparently adding strength, stamina, etc. has nothing to do with the player involved and their efforts or maybe even their physiology.  It sure seemed to me that ML looked like he added bulk..must have been from him going to the local Y.

I thought the Mike's could have beefed up more too.
