Illinois coach John Groce received a commitment from Sam McLaurin, who is coming from Coastal Carolina. Some notes courtesy Dan White:
- Started in all 31 games for the Chanticleers.
- Named to the Big South All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year.
- Named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Team (District 4) as selected by CoSIDA.
- Became Coastal's all-time blocked shots leader totaling 36 swats this season to bring his career total to 155.
- He is one of two players in CCU history to post over 100 blocks and 600 or more career rebounds.
- Moved into seventh place on Coastal's all-time rebounding list with 647 - Posted five double-doubles
- Finished the season as the team leader in rebounds with 7.5 per game while his 10.0 points a game ranked fourth.\
- Led the team in field goal percentage (65.2) including a 10-of-12 performance totaling a career-high 20 points against Old Dominion (3/13)
-Grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in the Chanticleers 71-63 victory over LSU (11/15)
- Had 19 points, 15 boards, two assists and two blocks against VMI (12/1)
