Leonard going first overall ... or second ... or third ...

Meyers Leonard is certain to become the first Illini to go in the first round of the NBA draft since Deron Williams and Luther Head in 2005.
But will the Pride of Robinson be a lottery pick? Since the order was determined Wednesday night, we decided to gauge his stock.

New Orleans

The Hornets pick Meyers if ... he grows 5 inches, develops a three-point shot and beats Anthony Davis in one-on-one 20 consecutive times.

The Bobcats pick Meyers if ... Michael Jordan really wants to lose his job. As talented as Leonard is, he won’t go this high.

The Wizards pick Meyers if ... his stats at Illinois were wrong and UConn big man Andre Drummond decides to play in Europe.

The Cavaliers pick Meyers ... if he bashes LeBron James, proclaims “Major League” his favorite movie and buys a houseboat on the Cuyahoga River.

The Kings pick Meyers if ... they want a runningmate for DeMarcus Cousins in an effort to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

The Blazers pick Meyers if ... they think he can do better than former No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet, now buried on the bench. That’s not asking a lot.

Golden State

The Warriors pick Meyers if ... they turn back the clock, using their top pick on a Big Ten big man for the first time since 1980 (Purdue’s Joe Barry Carroll).

The Raptors pick Meyers if ... they’re looking for the next Chris Bosh. Leonard is as big, athletic and eccentric as the injured Heat billionaire.

The Pistons pick Meyers if ... they think he’s better than John Henson, the North Carolina stringbean who has been pegged for this spot from Day 1.

New Orleans

The Hornets pick Meyers if ... they want to give Chris Kaman and Emeka Okafor help in the paint. The two lankies have a combined 15 years in the league.

The Blazers pick Meyers if ... he promises to be healthier than the last Big Ten behemoth they picked early on (Ohio State’s Greg Oden in 2007).

The Bucks pick Meyers if ... they look at their roster. The closest thing to a quality big man played college when Frank Williams was good (Drew Gooden).

The Suns pick Meyers if ... Jerry Colangelo has a say. The former Illini bigwig got Meyers involved in USA Basketball, so we’re guessing he’s a big fan.

The Rockets pick Meyers if ... Kevin McHale wants to take him under his wing and teach the raw rookie a post move or two. He definitely could benefit.

How about Boston with the 21st or 22nd pick?  They need size up front.  Can't imagine he goes in the Top 10.

I hate to say it. Myers Leonard is the most overrated prospect in the draft. He's got a jumpshot and size. Moderate athlete. With his tools he should have averaged 20 and 10, and if he had heart the Illini would have made the tournament. Soft, NBA flameout.
