CHAMPAIGN — Myke Henry figures prominently into Illinois basketball’s playing rotation over the next three seasons. At 6-foot-6, he’s a gifted scorer that can play multiple positions. But for now, the rising sophomore is in recovery mode.
Henry sustained an ankle sprain during an open gym at Ubben Basketball Complex on Sunday. X-rays Tuesday were negative. Illinois coach John Groce said Henry is expected to be sidelined for roughly 2-3 weeks.
Henry averaged 3.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 22 games as a freshman reserve. Coaches project him at the small and power forward positions.
It’s been a rough week on the injury front for the Illini. Rising senior Brandon Paul sustained a broken jaw during a recent workout. Paul is expected to be sidelined for about two weeks.
Just curious as to why the writers on HQ always refer to every player as "rising". Brandon Paul is a "rising" senior and Myke Henry is a "rising" sophomore. And every player that Illinois is recruiting is called a "rising" player. Seems like everyone is rising and when you use the word so often it loses its purpose. So, if everyone is rising, maybe we should just drop the word rising. I would think rising would be held back for players, especially recruits, who were not very high ranked and suddenly are getting lots of attention, which there are always a few of those, but not for every single recruit or player out there.
