Kind words for Groce

Kind words for Groce

Illinois shouldn’t have to worry about media faux pas with John Groce. In that respect, one of the finest journalists in basketball believes the UI hired a winner.

“I’m a huge believer in John Groce’s ability,” Sporting News columnist and Big Ten Network analyst Mike DeCourcy said. “I’ve known him for more than a dozen years and have always known he’d be an elite head coach because of his intelligence, his diligence, his energy and his ability to connect with people.

“That doesn’t mean the first year will be spectacular. Sporting News isn’t predicting a first-division Big Ten finish for the Illini, although if anybody comes from the bottom half to the top, it’ll be (Illinois).”

It's a story that one of Groce's buddies thinks he's a great guy? Oh, the Sleepy Gazoo.
