Former Illini basketball standout Mike Davis celebrates his 24th birthday today. The forward from Alexandria, Va.’s T.C. Williams High School was Illinois’ MVP after a strong senior season, averaging 12.5 points and 7.1 rebounds. Davis led the Illini in rebounding each of his last three seasons and wound up as the school’s No. 2 all-time rebounder (909) behind James Augustine. Big Ten coaches selected him as a member of the league’s 2008-09 second-team all-star squad his sophomore year. Davis averaged 11.3 points and 8.1 rebounds, including 22 and 10 in a win against Michigan and a career-high 28 points in a two-point loss to Clemson. Careerwise, his 1,279 points ranked him 22nd on Illinois’ all-time scoring chart. The Illini had a 65-39 record during his last three seasons, including a 30-24 mark in Big Ten games. Currently, Davis plays overseas for Mykolaiv of the Ukraine league.
