Illini grade vs. Bucky: C

Our breakdown of Sunday's 74-68 home loss to Wisconsin:

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Badgers’ Frank Kaminsky
When Jared Berggren got into foul trouble, the sophomore from Lisle came through in a big way. He scored 19 points and pulled down five rebounds. Even better, he was 12 of 14 at the line.

BACKCOURT
Wisconsin B-, Illinois B

What’s with the Illinois guys at Wisconsin? Ben Brust led the Badgers with 20 points. Joseph Bertrand started in place of Brandon Paul and was by far his team’s biggest threat.

FRONTCOURT
Wisconsin B+, Illinois C+

The three Badger starters combined for 20 rebounds, led by Ryan Evans with nine. Nnanna Egwu continues to look for, and make, his shots. But he needs help from his pals.

BENCH
Wisconsin B+, Illinois C

Kaminsky wasn’t the only productive Badger sub. Sam Dekker hit a couple shots and pulled down five boards. Most of Paul’s points came late. He missed 10 of 13 shots. Not good.

OVERALL
Wisconsin B+, Illinois C

At least the Illini didn’t fall behind 14-0. But home has become an unhappy place for John Groce, who got called for a technical at halftime. Bad time to bring the No. 1 team to town.
