All day, we'll break down each team's chances at the Big Ten tournament at the United Center:
No 1 seed: Indiana
Their coach ... needs to cut down on the caffeine. Tom Crean’s bizarre behavior (above) reminds of another successful Hoosiers coach. If he shows up to Friday’s opener in a red sweater, be afraid.
Their MVP ... is a Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy finalist as well as the Big Ten’s best defender and shooter. Victor Oladipo’s emergence is why Indiana is a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Their Chicago connection ... Crean knows what it’s like to win a Big Ten tournament title in the United Center. He was an animated assistant for Tom Izzo on Michigan State’s 1999 title team.
They’ll cut down the nets if ... Cody Zeller plays like he did last week. Averaging 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, Zeller showed why he’s considered a Top 5 pick in this summer’s NBA draft.
They’ll be bummed if ... they’re reminded of their Big Ten tournament history. The Hoosiers are one of five teams (Nebraska, Penn State, Minnesota, Northwestern) never to win the thing, advancing to the championship game only once: 2001.
We see the Hoosiers ... losing in the semifinals to Michigan. Showing he’s sorry, Crean will sing “Hail To The Victors” afterward.
