Tourney preview: Michigan State

All day, we'll break down each team's chances at the Big Ten tournament at the United Center:

No. 3 seed: Michigan State

Their coach ... has more wins (18) than anyone in Big Ten tournament history. With three tourney titles, Tom Izzo would love to break the tie with Matta for most championships.

Their MVP ... had a freshman season that had folks in green reminiscing about Magic Johnson. Gary Harris leads all Big Ten freshmen in scoring (13.7), three-point field goal percentage (47.2), three-point field goals made (42) and steals (29).

Their Chicago connection ... Jabari Parker almost picked them. The coaching staff burned rubber on the Dan Ryan for years recruiting the Simeon superstar, who broke their hearts by picking Duke.

They’ll cut down the nets if ... our own Marcus Jackson’s All-Big Ten ballot was right. He had good guy Adreian Payne (above) on his first team for a reason: rebounding, shooting, hustle. No wonder he bagged Most Improved and Scholar-Athlete awards at the team banquet.

They’ll be bummed if ... history holds true. No. 3 seeds at this tournament generally fail (11-13 with only one title: Purdue in 2009).

We see the Spartans ... losing to Ohio State in a rematch of last season’s tournament title game.
