Tourney preview: Michigan

Tourney preview: Michigan

All day, we'll break down each team's chances at the Big Ten tournament at the United Center:

No 5 seed: Michigan

Their coach ... has a ton of wins (667) but hasn’t done much in tournament play. The farthest John Beilein has advanced in the NCAAs is the Elite Eight (2005) and is 5-5 at the Big Ten tournament.

Their MVP ... is going to be picked seventh by the Detroit Pistons. Trey Burke’s the best guard to come out of Ann Arbor since Gary Grant.

Their Chicago connection ... has a lot of connections. Senior walk-on Josh Bartelstein (Highland Park) is the son of mega-agent Mark Bartelstein, a former Illini, and one day might represent some of the many NBA players on the current roster.

They’ll cut down the nets if ... revenge is a factor. Their road includes games against teams they’ve lost to: Penn State, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio State.

They’ll be bummed if ... their legs give out on Saturday. Only one team (Iowa in 2006) has won four games and a title.

We see the Wolverines ... watching the NCAA tournament selection show from the bowels of the United Center. A second-place finish means Michigan won’t get back to campus until late Sunday night.
