All day, we'll break down each team's chances at the Big Ten tournament at the United Center:
No 11 seed: Northwestern
Their coach ... has his resume ready to mail out. Bill Carmody is the second-winningest coach in school history, has taken the Wildcats to four consecutive postseason tournaments (school record) and is a really nice guy. But his 13th season likely is his last.
Their MVP ... is in street clothes. Part of the reason Carmody could be out is Drew Crawford’s season-ending shoulder injury. The one-time Big Ten Freshman of the Year was the first of many Wildcats to land on the DL.
Their Chicago connection ... their slogan. “Chicago’s Big Ten Team” was a marketing move of genius even if it doesn’t ring true (except in lacrosse, which Northwestern dominates like no other).
They’ll cut down the nets if ... they pull a Tom Crean and chop away after a loss. If Indiana can get away with it, why not Northwestern?
They’ll be bummed if ... ESPN2 cuts away from their telecast of what will be a lopsided loss to Iowa to show reruns of the CrossFit Games.
We see the Wildcats ... playing more inspired basketball under Chris Collins next season.
