Tourney preview: Wisconsin

All day, we'll break down each team's chances at the Big Ten tournament at the United Center:

No 4 seed: Wisconsin

Their coach ... trails only Gene Keady of Purdue (7) and Bob Knight of Indiana (5) for most conference Coach of the Year awards. Ryan won his third after leading a band of misfits to the program’s 12th consecutive Top 4 finish.

Their MVP ... will be a star in the Madison Park District as soon as next winter. Jared Berggren isn’t NBA material but he’s Ryan’s kinda guy: one of four players to finish among the Big Ten’s Top 25 scorers and Top 10 rebounders.

Their Chicago connection ... was going to Iowa before Todd Lickliter got canned. Mundelein’s Ben Brust averaged 11.3 points and a 5.2 rebounds and always seemed to shine when it mattered most, his halfcourt heave against Michigan one of the plays of the year.

They’ll cut down the nets if ... Sam Dekker plays like he did in his last postseason tournament. The freshman guided Sheboygan (Wis.) Lutheran to its first state title, scoring 40 points — including the game-winning three-pointer — in the championship.

They’ll be bummed if ... someone fouls them. The Badgers rank 12th in free throw shooting (63.0). It’s so bad that Ryan Evans, above, (41.8 percent) has resorted to jump shots at the line.

We see the Badgers ... leaving after one day following a loss to Michigan. Since winning the title in ‘08, Bucky is an ugly 1-4.
