Toledo's Pedon to replace Miller

Toledo's Pedon to replace Miller

A week after Brandon Miller left the Illinois program to become an assistant coach at Butler, John Groce has turned to Toledo assistant coach Ryan Pedon to replace Miller as Illinois’ special assistant to the head coach.

Pedon’s primary responsibilities with the Illini will be advanced scouting. He isn’t permitted to do any on-court coaching or off-campus recruiting, something he did in his previous role at Toledo.

Pedon spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach for Tod Kowalczyk at Toledo. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Miami (Ohio) for five seasons.

He was the director of operations at Kent State from 2002-05 and began his coaching career as an administrative assistant at Miami in 2002.

Pedon played collegiately at Division III Wooster College, where he is a 2000 graduate.

The move is expected to be made official later this week.

Pedon hasn’t previously worked with Groce or any members of the Illinois coaching staff, but they’ve had a relationship in the past from working in the Mid-American Conference and on the recruiting trail.
