Finke recovering from appendectomy

Michael Finke will get back on the basketball court.

Just not for a few weeks.

The Centennial forward and Class of 2014 Illinois commit had his appendix removed Wednesday night.

“He’s resting fine,” said Jeff Finke, Michael’s father and Michael’s coach on the AAU circuit with the Peoria Irish. “He just had some severe stomach cramps a few days ago that moved down. It was textbook appendicitis. We took him to the emergency room (Wednesday), and they said, ‘We need to take it out,’ which they did.”

Finke will miss a few more days of school this week while he recovers and doctors have advised him to stay away from contact for four weeks.

“It’s probably good for his body,” Jeff Finke said. “These kids never take a break. If this had to happen, this was a good time for it to happen.”

Hope he doesn't end up sitting on the bench in a suit for a few months complaining that his muscle memory isn't back yet..
