Top 10 ... basketball conferences

An early look at how college basketball conferences stack up in 2013-14 — courtesy basketball writer Marcus Jackson:

1

Big Ten

A year after ruling the sport, the league could have as many as six Top 25 teams in the preseason

2

ACC

The addition of Syracuse and Notre Dame will give the conference a boost

3

SEC

Kentucky, Florida each figure to be Top-5 teams, and Tennessee will be solid, too

4

American Athletic

New league comprised largely of the old Big East features reigning national champ Louisville

5

Pac-12

Arizona, UCLA and Colorado all feature an abundance of talent and should be national players

6

Big 12

After Kansas and Oklahoma State, the Big 12 doesn’t have a whole lot going for it

7

Big East

Marquette, Creighton, Butler and Xavier are all college basketball powers who attract attention

8

Atlantic 10

League lost some luster when Butler bolted, but VCU and St. Louis will keep it relevant

9

Mountain West

New Mexico, SDSU are always good, but Boise State might be league’s best this year

10

Missouri Valley

Loss of Creighton stings, but Wichita State will be a force coming off its Final Four run
