Djimde finds home at SIU

Former Illini men’s basketball player Ibby Djimde, who in March left the program, will continue his career at Southern Illinois.

The 6-foot-8, 245-pound center from Bamako, Mali, will have two years of eligibility remaining with Barry Hinson’s Salukis after sitting out the upcoming season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.

Djimde, who played his prep basketball at West Virginia power Huntington Prep, played sparingly in his two seasons at Illinois. Djimde appeared in 28 games during his career, averaging 0.3 point in 2.9 minutes. The Academic All-Big Ten pick in 2012-13 scored his only basket of the season in February in a win at Northwestern.

He announced his intentions to leave the program on March 29 along with Mike Shaw (Bradley) and Devin Langford (Kentucky Wesleyan). All received little playing time last season and that didn’t figure to change going forward.
