Finke signs with Illinois

Almost 11 months to the day he first committed to John Groce's program, Michael Finke officially became a part of future Illinois teams on Wednesday.

The Centennial forward, the first commit Groce landed in the Class of 2014, signed his letter of intent with Illinois on the first day of the early signing period.

Even got up at 5 a.m. for a workout earlier this morning before he has a 4 p.m. practice this afternoon with the Chargers.

Finke thanked his family, his girlfriend, his friends, his classmates and his teammates at Centennial and with the Peoria Irish, his AAU team, along with Groce and his assistant coaches before he put pen to paper in front of about 200 people in Aldridge Auditorium at Centennial.

"It's awesome for all the support from the student body," Finke said. "Now I can just focus on the season, not that I wasn't focused on the season before, but it's out of the way and I can focus on Centennial and get ready for Illinois."
